Pre-built (canned) content sucks

Businesses can have a bright, shiny, Once upon a marketing time2awesome widget that is 100% perfect in every way. But if they try to sell the widget using the same verbiage that their competitors are using, well, it's not likely to work. If you're a small business that has purchased a marketing "program", it's likely that your competitors have the same package. Literally when someone searches for your services, they are finding all of your competitors too. What sets you apart from all of the noise? It isn't even possible to make it to page one of Google search results this way. The same thing holds true for your email marketing and mailers. Same concept, same verbiage, same results. Effective marketing strategies and personalized marketing services for small business can make a significant difference in setting you apart from the competition.

Know Your Audience

Is your audience the business owner? Or is it the IT Manager? Or the Human Resources Director? All have very different personas and needs. A syndicated piece of content will not land with all three of these. Are you talking up your products and services? Why not talk about their pain points and how you solve them instead? The key is not just in having a great product, but in understanding and reaching the right audience who will see the value in that product.

The Importance of Target Marketing

Once upon a (marketing) time, I was hired to execute a lead generation campaign. I had the opinion that the marketing campaign wasn’t right for the target market and felt that they would have a higher ROI with a different approach. We ran an A/B test and had interesting results. The client appreciated my honesty and transparency, and the fact that I was willing to challenge a pre-built ("canned" / syndicated) and "tested" campaign. This experience underscores the importance of tailoring marketing strategies to the specific needs and behaviors of your target audience, rather than relying solely on generic solutions.

And if you're trying to have people find you online using syndicated content, that's not how it works so skip that strategy. Syndicated content has its place, but it is not in getting found. It is for branding and being relevant.

The Importance of Messaging

Another example is from a tech event where a company struggled to generate leads despite a substantial investment. After a thorough analysis, it became clear that their marketing message was too generic and failed to address the specific pain points of their potential customers. By refining their messaging and focusing on the unique benefits of their product, we were able to significantly increase engagement and lead conversion rates. This shows that even the best products need the right messaging to reach their full potential.

The ever-evolving landscape of tech events demands a dynamic approach. What worked last year might not yield the same results today. Continuous monitoring and adapting to trends, competitor activities, and audience preferences is crucial. With the right marketing help, you can stay ahead of the curve, ensuring your strategies are not only effective but also innovative and relevant. This proactive approach can turn tech events into powerful platforms for growth and brand recognition.
